“Bill Anton Paints the West” Exhibition Opens at Desert Caballeros Western Museum
Bill Anton captures the American West, but not as biographer. The passion, mystery and grand wilderness that boldly confronts the senses is the West Anton paints. His subject is the West’s caretaker, the cowboy. Anton tells stories with a stroke of his brush, stories of long days, hard work, and the power of man and beast set against the dramatic landscape. The Desert Caballeros Western Museum is proud to recognize this keeper of the West with an exhibition entitled “Bill Anton Paints the West” opening December 18, 2021 and funded in part by the Arizona Commission on the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, and the Town of Wickenburg.
Born in Chicago in 1957, Anton fell in love with the West when he was seven years old. Always sketching, he took his passion with him to college where he attended Northern Arizona University, then on to the Scottsdale Artists’ School where he studied under instructors Michael Lynch and Ned Jacobs who encouraged him to paint from life. As Anton began visiting ranches in Flagstaff and Prescott, he spent time with cowboys, horses, and livestock. Exhibition on view from December 18, 2021 through March 6, 2022, in Fisher Gallery.
