In 2006, Desert Caballeros Western Museum embraced a revolutionary idea: an annual exhibition showcasing the brightest contemporary female artists working in the Western genre. In the male-dominated world of Western Art, Cowgirl Up! turned the spotlight squarely on women’s voices and perspectives, serving up a new, deeper understanding of the American West. Over a decade later, CU! remains one of the major national events for Western women artists.

An exhibition first and a sale second – A tribute to the remarkable contributions by more than 60 of today’s women artists to the Western genre. “Cowgirl Up!” showcases the exceptional talent and creative expression of female artists who skillfully capture the essence of the West through sculpture, painting and other artistic mediums. Opening on March 22, 2024 and running through September 1, 2024, this popular exhibition offers a unique perspective on the West, highlighting the often-underrepresented narratives and voices of women in Western art.
